Science Iowa Board Responsibilities
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF INDIVIDUAL
SCIENCE IOWA BOARD MEMBERS?

Attend all board and committee meetings and as many functions, such as special events, as possible.

Stay informed about Science Iowa’s mission, services, policies,- and programs.

Accept as a personal duty the responsibility to stay informed on emerging issues and to conduct ourselves with professional competence, fairness, impartiality, efficiency,- and effectiveness.

Prepare for board and committee meetings by reviewing the agenda and supporting materials.

Serve on committees or task forces and offer to take on special assignments when your capacity allows.

Inform others about the Science Iowa. Advocate for the organization.

Suggest nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to its work and to the organization.

Stay informed about science and science policy developments, especially as they relate to Iowa and Iowa institutions.

Follow conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies.

Assist the board in meeting its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviewing the organization’s financial statements.

Serve with respect, concern, courtesy, and responsiveness in carrying out the mission of Science Iowa.
